Australia's Sea World announced on Tuesday the birth of the park's first king penguin.
The birth of the baby king penguin three weeks ago is the result of a four-year program to breed the species in captivity inside its 12 million Australian dollar (9.1 million U.S. dollar) penguin exhibit.
Sea World's penguin keeper Jeff Hancock says the baby's parents, mother Leon and father Frank had been trying to conceive for the past three years.
"This is our first king penguin chick hatched at Sea World so it is an exciting time for everyone," Hancock told reporters.
"Leon has chosen a nest site only centimeters away from a viewing window so our visitors can get a close encounter with the new chick."
King Penguins are natives to Antarctica and can dive up to 300 meters deep when searching for food. Endi
