HO CHI MINH CITY -- A new subtype of H5N1 avian influenza virus, 2.3.2.1C, has been discovered in Vietnam's Mekong delta city of Can Tho, according to the local Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Anti-bird flu efforts, therefore, are being challenged because vaccination is not effective for the new subtype, Nguyen Khai Dang, Deputy Director of the Department told local VietnamNet Bridge at a meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute on Monday. (Vietnam-Bird Flu)

KABUL -- More than 20 security personnel had been killed, some of them beheaded by Taliban militants couple of days ago in Jarm district of Badakhshan province with Faizabad as its capital 315 km northeast of Kabul, head of Badakhshan Provincial Council, Abdullah Naji Nazari said Monday.
"In the clash which happened in Khostak area of Jarm district very recently, nine Afghan soldiers and three police had been killed," Nazari told Xinhua. (Afganistan-Taliban)

NEW DELHI -- Four security personnel were killed and eight others were injured as leftwing rebels blew up a police vehicle in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Monday, said local media.
The anti-landmine vehicle was on a patrol near Cholnar, about 25 km away from district headquarters of Dantewada, when the rebels triggered a powerful blast, said local daily Times of Indian. (India-Rebels)
