China vows law-enforcement, security cooperation with U.S., Thailand

Senior Chinese official Meng Jianzhu met with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson on Thursday, pledging to enhance law-enforcement and security cooperation between the two countries.

Meng said law-enforcement and security is an important component of China-U.S. cooperation.

He hoped the two sides will strengthen pragmatic cooperation on jointly fighting transnational crimes, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of their citizens, chasing criminals and fighting terrorism.

Johnson said the U.S. is willing to enhance mutual trust and coordination with China, so as to make new progress in their cooperation on law-enforcement and security.

Meng, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, also met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Prawit Wongsuwan on Thursday.

Meng said China attaches great importance to developing friendly ties with Thailand.

China is ready to work with Thailand to implement the important consensus reached by both leaders and push forward the development of their relations, he said.

He suggested more exchanges and coordination between the two countries in the areas of law-enforcement and security, so as to make new contributions for safeguarding national security of both nations as well as regional stability.

Prawit said Thailand is willing to deepen all-round pragmatic cooperation with China in areas including law enforcement and security, for the benefits of the two peoples. Endi
