Nigeria fixes voter card readers ahead of governorship polls

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria has reconfigured thousands of voter card readers to make sure there won't be glitches in them during Saturday's state governorship election, an official said on Thursday.

Augusta Ogakwu, secretary of the Nigerian electoral body told Xinhua all the electronic machines are ready for use during the governorship polls.

The voter card readers were erratic during the presidential poll held on March 28, causing the electoral body to extend voting by one day.

The machines and other election materials have been dispatched to all the states where the polling will take place.

The governorship elections will be held in 31 out of Nigeria's 36 states.

The election will not take place in five states - Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Osun and Anambra where gubernatorial elections had taken place between 2013 and 2014 - and the Nigerian capital Abuja which is officially the seat of central government. Endi
