Cuba sends 8 male wrestlers to World Cup in USA

The twice world runner-up, Reineris Salas, spearheaded the eight-strong Cuban free-style wrestling team leaving Thursday for Los Angeles to attend the World Cup to be held from April 11-12.

Besides Salas (86kg), the team also features the London 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Livan Lopez (74), followed by Yowlys Bonne (57), Maikel Perez (61), Franklyn Maren (65), Andy Moreno (70), Javier Cortina (97) and Eduardo Mesa (125).

According to Lopez, their tough rivals include American Jordan Burroughs, London 2012 Olympic champion, and the Russian world silverist Denis Tsargush.

Cuba will be in the Group A, together with world champion Russia, Mongolia and the hosts United States. Group B contains Turkey, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Iran, winner of the previous edition. Endi
