Bulgaria to host NATO Deployable Communication Module

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian parliament on Thursday ratified the Garrison Support Agreement with NATO on hosting a Deployable Communications Module (DCM), the third unit of the Alliance on the country's territory.

According to the agreement, signed in 2014, the DCM will be manned with 57 Bulgarians, and will be a part of the second NATO Signal Battalion, which is based in Grazzanise, Italy.

In March, Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev told reporters that the main task of the module was to provide NATO with communication and information support at the operational level in the participation in missions, operations, and exercises.

On Wednesday, the Bulgarian government approved the deployment of a NATO Force Integration Unit on the country's territory, with the main task of ensuring the timely deployment and regrouping of troops and forces of the Alliance in case of an escalation of the situation.

Another NATO unit in Bulgaria, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Center of Excellence, obtained on April 1 an official accreditation from the North Atlantic Council.

The center will provide support for the transformation and strengthening of the capacity of the Alliance in the expert field of crisis management and disaster response. Endit
