Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba said Wednesday his country which was chosen to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations (CAN 2017), "will mobilize all necessary resources to make the event a success."
Gabon beat Algeria and Ghana in the bid.
Members of the Confederation of African Football preferred the candidature of Gabon which had co-hosted a successful CAN 2012 competition with Equatorial Guinea.
The 2012 experience enabled Gabon to construct new stadia and reinforce its hotel industry. New roads were also constructed in the capital Libreville to connect the towns where the competition was to be held.
"This is a big victory for Gabon, and good news for African youths," Ali Bongo said in the statement. Endi
