Chinese stocks ended lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.93 percent to finish at 3,957.53 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.33 percent to close at 13, 796.73 points.

SEOUL, April 9 -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched down 0.39 points, or 0.02 percent, to 2,058.87 at the close. Trading volume stood at 519.43 million shares worth 5.81 trillion won (5.32 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.04 percent on Thursday with the weighted index down 3.93 points at 9,568.04, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 100.06 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.22 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed softer Thursday with weakness in resources and financial stocks.

At the official market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had edged down 28.5 points, or 0.48 percent, to 5,932.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index slipped 26.8 points, or 0.45 percent, to 5,901.5.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended Thursday higher with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index closing at a fresh 15-year high amid optimism over Japanese corporate earnings.

The 225-issue Nikkei index gained 147.91 points, or 0.75 percent, from Wednesday at 19,937.72, the highest close since April 2000.

The turnover was about 2,349.7 billion yen (about 19.55 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 550.52 points on Thursday, up 2.8 points, or 0.51 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 94.464 million shares worth 1.960 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (91.36 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 158 stocks went up, 67 stocks fell down, while 55 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 707.53 points, or 2.7 percent to 26,944.39 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,732.23 and 27, 922.67. Turnover totaled 291.53 billion HK dollars (about 37.47 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 82.37 points on Thursday, up 0.41 points, or 0.5 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of over 39.522 million shares worth around 492.876 billion Vietnamese dong (23.09 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, an increase of 8.2 percent in volume and 7.9 percent in value against the previous closing session.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Thursday at 4,345.89 points, down 1.24 points or about 0.03 percent from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 304 issues traded, 125 registered gains and 158 incurred losses while 21 remained unchanged.

Total turnover decreased to about 3.68 billion taka (about 47. 04 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from about 3.71 billion taka (about 47.62 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished slightly lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index STI) down 0.38 points, or 0.01 percent, to close at 3,460.30.

A total of 3.04 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 36 billion Singapore dollars (1.01 billion U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,849.39, down 0. 92 of a point or 0.05 percent, and the Emas was at 12,687.25, up 5. 14 points or 0.04 percent.

Turnover declined to 1.80 billion shares valued at 1.79 billion ringgit Malaysia (492.71 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.82 billion shares valued at 1.88 billion ringgit Malaysia (517.62 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 0.25 points, or 0.02 percent to close at 1,545.11 points.

Some 5.39 billion shares worth 28.15 billion baht (about 870 million U.S. dollars) changed hands.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 14.32 points, or 0.26 percent, to a level of 5,500.90 on Thursday.
