Air travel disruptions continue in Belgium

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Flight cancellations and delays are set to continue in Belgium on Thursday as a result of ongoing industrial action in neighbouring France, where air traffic controllers are on strike on Wednesday and Thursday over a pay dispute.

On Wednesday 40 percent of flights travelling to and from French airports were cancelled on the instructions of the French civil aviation authority, DGAC.

Flights also using French air space were also affected.

Brussels and Charleroi airports in Belgium have both been affected by the strikes.

Brussels Airlines announced on Thursday the cancellation of six flights from Brussels Zaventem airport to Marseille, Nice, Paris and Toulouse.

Ryanair also cancelled flights from Charleroi to Carcassonne, Figari, Marseille, Montpellier and Perpignan, as well as destinations in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, Le Soir reports.

According to Brussels Airlines, "considerable delays" are expected for flights to and from destinations in France, Spain and Portugal, with delays of up to two and a half hours.

Air traffic controllers in France are on strikes over pay and pension disputes. Further actions are planned for April 16 and 18, and from April 29 to May 2. Endit
