Second estimate shows EU current account surplus hit 38.7 bln euros in Q4 2014

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Union's seasonally adjusted external current account recorded a surplus of 38.7 billion euros (about 41.59 billion U.S. dollars) in the fourth quarter of 2014, according to a second estimate released on Thursday by EU statistical office Eurostat.

The first estimate for the fourth quarter of 2014, which was published by Eurostat in February, put the EU current account surplus at 33.4 billion euros.

That first estimate was based on the sum of monthly figures provided by the EU member states to Eurostat and was provisional, while the second release was based on more detailed quarterly data, transmitted to Eurostat by the member sates 85 days after the reference quarter.

These data may also be subject to revision when data for later quarters are transmitted by the member states, said the Eurostat. (1 euro = 1.07 U.S. dollars) Endit
