Modi embarks on 8-day tour of France, Germany, Canada

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday embarked on a tour of France, Germany and Canada, aiming at job creation by bolstering trade and economic ties.

"Today I begin my visit to France, Germany and Canada," Modi tweeted earlier in the day about his eight-day three-nation tour.

During his visit to France, where the Indian prime minister would arrive later this evening, he would hold two meetings with French industrialists, one on infrastructure and the other on defense technology, on Friday.

On the same day, Modi will attend a lunch at the French National Assembly in Paris, apart from having a bilateral meeting with French President Francois Hollande.

The Indian prime minister will Saturday visit the Airbus hub in Toulouse in southern France and the French space agency CNES, Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said about Modi's visit.

Modi will also go to Lille to visit the Neuve Chapelle war memorial and pay homage to 10,000 Indian soldiers who were killed during World War I, the foreign secretary added.

The Indian prime minister will Sunday fly to Germany, where he will attend the Hannover Messe fair where India is the partner country and over 4,000 Indian companies are participating.

Modi will also hold meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, before leaving for Canada where he would arrive on April 14.

A day after, he would meet Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper over a working lunch, before wrapping up the tour on April 16. Endi
