The Jakarta metropolitan police have launched an investigation into Wednesday's explosion in the Indonesian capital that injured four people, police said here on Thursday.

The police will probe the motive of the blast, the perpetrators and the origin of the explosive materials, said spokesman of the Jakarta police Rikwanto.

"(The investigators) will investigate where the explosive materials were from, which groups are involved, and the purpose of it," he said at the Jakarta police headquarters office.

The spokesman said that the police found packages containing explosive materials at the scene in clean condition.

"It means that the packages had been new in the location," said Rikwanto.
