Uganda tops CECAFA region in latest FIFA rankings

Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda regained their top spot in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) as per the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

In the rankings, Uganda moved forward by two places to 72nd behind Montenegro and Norway.

"This is very good and we shall keep working hard to improve our ranking and also struggle to qualify for key tournaments," Uganda coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic told Xinhua in an interview here.

Uganda's improvement on the rankings with 485.15 points came after their 1-0 win over Nigeria in an International friendly played last month.

Ethiopia are the third best ranked nation in the CECAFA region at number 101, while Tanzania and Sudan are 107 and 110 respectively. Djibouti are the lowest ranked team in the region at 207.

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations champions Cote d'Ivoire are ranked 23rd, while Algeria who reached the knockout stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil remain the best ranked African country at 21.

World Cup holders Germany remain top of the rankings, followed by Argentina, Belgium, Colombia and Brazil. Endi
