Tokyo stocks end 1.46 pct higher after recent losses

Tokyo stocks rose 1.46 percent Thursday on bargain hunting after two days of steep losses.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 277.95 points, from Wednesday at 19,312.79. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 25.18 points, or 1.65 percent, to close at 1,554.17.

Mining was the only loser among 33 industry groups, while major gainers included rubber, land transport and banking issues.

The turnover was 2,790.9 billion yen (about 23.32 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
