Cambodia, Myanmar pledge to strengthen ties, cooperation

Cambodia and Myanmar on Thursday vowed to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation for the benefits of the two countries, a spokesman said.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and visiting Myanmar Vice President U Nyan Tun, Eang Sophalleth, spokesman for Hun Sen, told reporters after the meeting.

The prime minister said Cambodia and Myanmar have mechanisms including ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam), and ACMECS (Ayeyawady Chaophraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) for promoting bilateral cooperation.

He added that Cambodia gives priorities to the investment in human resources, agriculture with a particular focus on irrigation system, telecommunication and transportation infrastructures, and electricity.

For his part, Tun said his visit was to strengthen and expand friendly relations and cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia.

Tun arrived here on Wednesday for a 3-day goodwill visit. During his stay, he is also scheduled to sightsee the UNESCO ( United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural Organization) World Heritage-listed Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province. Endi
