Fiji commissions new top envoy to EU

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fiji on Thursday commissioned its new permanent representative to the European Union and ambassador to Belgium, the Fijian government announced.

Deo Saran, a chartered accountant with extensive experience in the private sector, received his commission by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. He was appointed late last month.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said Saran's appointment is crucial in filling the vacuum at the Fiji Embassy in Brussels with the untimely passing away of the late Ambassador Peceli Vocea in June last year.

Kubuabola said he is confident that Saran will perform his functions very ably given his experience in the Fiji Sugar Corporation and the Fiji Pine Limited.

Saran was chief executive officer for the Fiji Sugar Corporation from 2008 to 2010 and had worked as a senior executive at the Fiji Pine Limited for 13 years before acting as its chief executive officer for two years, according to the Department of Information.

Saran is expected to take up his posting in Brussels later this month. Endi
