Namibian cricket team victorious at T20 African Qualifiers

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibia' s cricket national team, the Eagles, won the Pepsi ICC T20 African Division Qualifiers for the 2016 World Cup to be held in India.

The Namibian team's triumph came courtesy of an emphatic victory in their last encounter against Kenya on Tuesday, in South Africa.

In a do or die fixture against Kenya, the Eagles stepped up a notch by posting a challenging 166/9 after 20 overs. In response, Kenya were only able to post 136/8 in their 20 overs.

Namibia beat Kenya by 30 runs, but both teams qualified for the Global T20 Qualifiers with four wins a piece, while Uganda trailed behind them with a close 3 wins.

The win meant that the Eagles moved past the Kenyan team, who were without a single loss since the start of the tourney last Wednesday, to take the top honors.

The Namibian team will now play against the other 13 regional qualifiers at the next qualifying round starting July 6 in Scotland and Ireland.

The top six of the 14 teams will progress to the next round, where they will meet the 9th and 10th ranked full members in the ICC T20 Championship table. Endi
