Major power cut hits Turkey

Xinhua, March 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

A nationwide power outage hit Turkey on Tuesday and authorities are investigating "all possibilities" including terrorism, local media reported.

Power supply has been cut in more than 20 cities, including Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, from around 10:36 a.m. local time, halting public transit systems and resulting in major traffic jams.

The Electricity Transmission Company blamed a fault on power transmission lines for the outage, but Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said authorities are "considering all probabilities behind the nationwide power outage, including terrorism."

There were also speculations of a cyber attack. Efforts are being made to restore power supply in the country. Endit
