German firms more willing to recruit in March: research institute

Xinhua, March 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

German firms were more willing to recruit new staff members in March, the Ifo research institute reported Friday.

The Ifo employment barometer index rose from 106.8 in February to 108.1 index points, regaining the same level as it was in January, the highest value since March 2012.

The Munich-based think tank said in its report that service providers and manufacturers in particular reported plans to expand their staff base.

In manufacturing, the employment barometer continued to rise. Automotive manufacturers most notably planned to recruit additional employees. Meanwhile, wholesalers also intended to recruit more employees, according to the report.

However, retailers are more cautious, and there was hardly any change in construction in the employment barometer.

Ifo is one of Europe's leading research institutes. Its business climate index is considered the most important barometer for the German economy. Endit
