Khedira confirms Real Madrid exit at end of season

Xinhua, March 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

German international midfielder, Sami Khedria confirmed on Thursday that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old joined Madrid from Stuttgart after the 2010 World Cup and has resisted signing a new contract which means he can leave on a free transfer at the end of June.

His five years at the Santiago Bernabeu have seen him win the League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA World Club Championship as well as the King's Cup on two occasions.

However, injury and the signing of fellow German, Tony Kroos, have limited him to just 17 first team appearances.

The club also signed Brazilian Lucas Silva in January, when it appeared probable Khedira would not continue, something he finally confirmed in an interview with 'Kicker' magazine.

"It's not a decision against Real Madrid. I want to start a new stage in my career and continue to grow," he said.

Khedira's decision will alert a host of clubs in England and in Germany, but the midfielder said he had not decided on his future destination.

"There's no agreement with anyone, nor do I have a preference to go anywhere at the moment. I've had a magnificent time in a magnificent team. I'll do everything I can to keep helping the team in the coming weeks," was all he would say. Endite
