(Special for CAFS) Namibia's unemployment rate running at 28.1 pct

Xinhua, March 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibia's unemployment rate is running at 28.1 percent, the country's Statistics Agency said Thursday.

The agency's acting statistician general Lina Ndafewayo Kafidi told the media in the capital Windhoek when she launched the 2014 Namibia Labour Force Survey.

The data used in the survey was collected from 40,202 individuals aged between 15 and 60.

This was the first survey to cover all the 14 regions, sampling more than 10,200 households.

Kafidi said the survey recorded a slight increase in labour force participation of 10,217 people, which is an increase from 980,781 in 2013 to 990,998 people in 2014.

She said there are 22,733 people who entered the job market in the period under review. The survey also showed that there are more unemployment females (31.7 percent) than males (24.3 percent).

"The broadly defined unemployment rate is estimated at 28.1 percent, which is a 1.5 percentage point drop from the rate of 29. 6 percent reported in 2013," she said.

The country's first labour survey was carried out in 1993. Endi
