New Brussels Airport connector boasts large screening platform in Europe

Xinhua, March 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brussels Airport officially inaugurated its new connector building on Tuesday featuring a large screening platform.

The building links the terminal above-ground to the two piers, so passengers need less time to go from the check-in to their boarding gate.

With 25 screening lanes, Brussels Airport not only has the biggest screening platform in Europe but has also become the first airport to apply remote screening on a large scale, according to a statement from the airport.

Under the system, security officers observe passengers through monitors in a separate room, rather than alongside the screening lines, allowing them to concentrate fully on their task, the statement said.

Brussels Airport has invested 75 million euros (82.47 million U.S. dollars) in the connector in order to maximize passenger comfort. This is the largest investment made at the airport since the construction of Pier A in 2002.

"The connector is the emblem of the strategy we adopted in 2012 and which places the passenger at the centre of everything we do," said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company.

"The first and foremost purpose of the connector is to further improve the quality of the airport infrastructure for our passengers and airlines," he added. Endit
