Tsai tops international golfers at Tour Q School

Xinhua, March 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tsai Pei-ying booked her card for the upcoming 2015 China LPGA Tour season when the Chinese Taipei player closed with a two-under 70 to top the leaderboard at the International Players Qualifying School.

With the top-30 players in the field earning their playing card, the fifth-year pro finished at three-under 213 in the 54-hole tournament, a stroke ahead of Thai rookie Budsabakorn Sukapan (66), the silver medal winner at last year's Asian Games, at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club. Fellow Thai Janya Morrakotpan (72) was third, three strokes off the pace at even par.

Tsai said it was great to qualify for the China LPGA Tour as she would now be able to play in the 15-plus tournaments being held this year. In addition, she could also earn points to move up the women's world golf rankings where she currently sits 500th.

"I'm very happy to qualify successfully. My putting is hot, which gives me the confidence to win. And my irons are good as well," said the 24-year-old.

"It feels so good to come back to the China LPGA Tour. I'm not freshman for the CLPGA because I used to play the Tour before (as an amateur). I enjoyed the life on the Tour and have many old friends as well. I have big expectations of my performance this season and hope to try my best and win again."

The international qualifiers and the rest of the China LPGA Tour regulars return to action this Thursday for the Zhuhai Classic in Guangdong province.
