A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in the New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea at 11:00 a.m. Beijing time (0300 GMT) on Monday, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The epicenter was near 4.2 degrees south latitude and 152.1 degrees east longitude, about 790 kilometers northeast of Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, said the observatory.

In an earlier bulletin from the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude of the quake was put at 5.9 and the depth at 198.87 km. Endi
