China reports one death from H5N1 bird flu

The health authority in the southwest province of Sichuan on Monday reported the death of a man infected with H5N1 bird flu.

The patient had tested positive for H5N1, a strain of avian influenza, according to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention released on March 12.

It has been confirmed that the deceased had been in recent contact with poultry, no details on when he was admitted or when he died have been released.

None of the 55 people, who had been in contact with the deceased, are showing any symptoms of H5N1, the local disease control department said. Endi
