Czech mulls law making conscription obligatory for women

Xinhua, March 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Czech legislative council has approved on Thursday an amendment to the conscription law, which requires obligatory registration of conscripts for both men and women, said Vladimir Lukovsky, an official with the press department of the Defence Ministry.

After the adoption of the amendment, the conscription will become obligatory to both men and women who reach the age of 18. The call-up will start in early 2017, according to official sources.

Under the amendment, voluntary military training will be introduced to increase active reservists. All healthy Czech are eligible to take part in such training.

Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky said the legislation will be reviewed by the government. Enditem
