Iran in tight schedule to tackle key nuclear issues with powers

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Iranian foreign minister and the U.S. secretary of state will meet to further their bilateral attempts to settle differences over Tehran's nuclear program, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his U.S. counterpart John Kerry are scheduled for March 15 in the Swiss city Lausanne.

Zarif will then fly to the Belgian capital Brussels to meet with his German, Britain and French counterparts on March 16, according to a spokeswoman with the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Experts from Iran and the P5+1 group, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, will hold talks in Lausanne to discuss details of a possible nuclear deal, the spokeswoman said.

The world powers are currently negotiating with Iran over its nuclear program in the hope of reaching a deal by the end of June.

The deal would likely include Iran cutting back its nuclear program reportedly for at least ten years, in exchange for a lifting of western sanctions that have been crippling the Iranian economy. Endit
