Bulgarian parliament approves Rumiana Bachvarova as new Minister of Interior

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian National Assembly on Wednesday approved Rumiana Bachvarova as Minister of Interior, replacing Veselin Vuchkov, the first reshuffle in the second cabinet of Boyko Borissov.

Vuchkov resigned last Wednesday, less than four months after taking office, because Borissov did not agree with his request for dismissal of the secretary general of his ministry.

Bachvarova, 56, holds a degree and background in sociology. From 2009 to 2013 she served as Head of the Political Office of Borissov when he was prime minister for the first time.

Since last November, when the coalition government led by GERB party chairman Borissov took office, Bachvarova has been serving as Deputy Prime Minister for Coalition Policy and Public Administration, and she will continue to hold this position. Endit
