Croatian FM says running for post of UN chief "an option"

Xinhua, March 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic said her candidacy for the post of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General would be "an option" if it is decided the next UN chief should come from Eastern Europe, local media reported.

Pusic, also the first deputy prime minister of Croatia, however, said the United Nations has not made its decision yet as to where should the next UN chief should come from, Croatian "Nova TV" station reported.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic would support her for the candidacy, since it was important for Croatia and its international visibility, the report quoted Pusic as saying.

The term of the current UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will expire by the end of 2016.

Pusic is the president of Croatian People's Party (HNS) and has been the country's foreign and european affairs minister since December 2011. Endtiem
