White House introduces initiative to boost high-tech jobs

Xinhua, March 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama is going to introduce an initiative to boost high-tech training and hiring in order to help Americans earn higher wages, the White House said in a statement Monday.

The new initiative, called "TechHire Initiative", will include a campaign to work with 20 regional communities and with more than 300 employers to expand access to tech jobs.

Under the initiative, the administration will launch a 100- million-dollar competition grant to support innovative approaches to training and employing low-skill individuals who don't have easy access to training.

The White House said in the statement that America has about 5 million open jobs today and over half a million of those job openings are in information technology fields like software development, network administration, and cybersecurity.

It said the initiative is designed to help more Americans train and connect to these jobs.

According to the statement, the average salary in a job that requires information technology skills is 50 percent higher than the average private-sector jobs.

This initiative is part of the Obama Administration's middle class economics agenda. Endite
