Int'l anti-terror alliance strikes Syrian oil refinery, killing 30 IS militants

Xinhua, March 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The US-led anti-terror coalition on Sunday evening struck an oil refinery under the control of the Islamic State (IS) militants in a border Syrian town near Turkey, killing 30 IS militants, a monitoring group tracking the Syrian conflict reported.

The US-led alliance struck the refinery located in the northwestern part of the Syrian border town of Tal Abyad located in the northern province of al-Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS, near the Turkish borders, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based watchdog group, which relies on a network of activists on ground.

The Observatory also posted an online video purporting to show the fire spiraling out of what it said was the targeted refinery.

The US-led anti-terror coalition has been hitting the IS in Syria since late last year, hitting the terror-designated group with enough power to restrain its movement in the war-torn country. Endite
