Liberia will on Thursday discharge the only confirmed Ebola case in the country, a top official said on Wednesday.
"Liberia has clearly passed 12 days of no new confirmed Ebola case. The only patient in ETU will be discharged from the Chinese Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) with a special occasion. We will be awaiting the remaining 30 days to be announced by the World Health Organization (WHO) Ebola free nation," the Head of the Incident Management System (IMS) and Assistant Minister for Preventive Service, Tolbert Nyenswah told reporters in Monrovia, the nation's capital.
The minister said the border points of the country remains a great concern of everyone due to unauthorized crossing.
It is important for authority of the Health Ministry to caution residents of these places to focus on maintaining the safety of all points, he added, noting that with the current status of the country, Liberia is close to reaching to zero Ebola case but there was more needs to continue vigilance throughout the country.
The minister told reporters that Cape Mount passes 48-day of no new case, Margibi 16-day, Montserrado 12-day and Lofa of over 160- day among other counties, which indicates that Liberia is reaching to zero Ebola case.
According to him, Liberia through the IMS is currently in search of 201 contacts across the country, including border points and called on the public to continue observing the preventive measures to avoid further spread of the disease.
Nyenswah stressed that the IMS is now getting to face three of the fight against the virus and they will remain forceful in ensuring that Liberia completes the 42 days without any new case of Ebola.
"The face three is meant to gain confidence in the health sector of Liberia and gain confidence also in Liberia by the international community that would help in getting flight back to Liberia," Minister added.
He said the IMS will be involved into quality surveillance, strengthening the cross border elements, including air, sea and other ground points and expanding the issue of testing of dead body and other illnesses related to Ebola. Endi
