Euro zone retail trade sees 1.1 pct monthly growth in Jan.

The seasonally adjusted retail trade volume registered a month-on-month rise of 1.1 percent in the euro zone in January, Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted retail trade volume increased 0.8 percent in the European Union(EU) in January, compared with figures of December 2014, according to the Eurostat.

On a year-on-year basis, retail sales increased by 3.7 percent in the euro zone and 4.0 percent in the EU.

Eurostat attributed the monthly increases in January to sales in automotive fuel, the non-food sector, food, drinks and tobacco.

Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Portugal, Poland, Germany and Slovenia, while decreases were observed in Britain, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Ireland. Enditem
