Xinhua, March 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Troops of the United States and their counterparts from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Djibouti are conducting joint counter-terrorism exercise in the east Ugandan district of Jinja, U.S. embassy in Kampala said Tuesday.

About 320 military personnel from these countries are participating in the annual joint exercise Eastern Accord, the embassy said in a statement.

The exercise aims to improve participants' capability to counter violent extremist organizations and to enhance cooperation and coordination among participating partners, according to the statement.

The Eastern African region has been facing threats from extremist organizations like the Somali militant group Al Shabaab which launched attacks in Kenya and Uganda. Endi
