More foreigners stay overnight in Icelandic hotels

The number of foreigners who stayed overnight in Icelandic hotels registered a year-on-year increase of 41 percent in January, official figures showed on Tuesday.

According to statistics issued by the Statistics Iceland, the number of people paid for accommodations in Icelandic hotels rose to 161,400 in January, a 35 percent increase from the figure of January 2014.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 87 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in January, up 41 percent compared with the figure in January 2014. Icelanders who stayed overnight in hotels increased by 3 percent.

Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in January were mostly residents from the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany. Enditem
