Afghan forces kill 14 Taliban fighters

Units of police backed by the army have killed 14 Taliban militants during series of operations across the country over the past 24 hours, Ministry of Interior said in a statement released here Monday. "A total of 14 armed Taliban members have been killed and five others wounded as units of police backed by the army and national directorate for security conducted cleanup operations in Nangarhar, Takhar, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Herat, Farah and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours," the statement asserted.

The security forces have also discovered and seized a number of arms and ammunitions during the operations, the statement said.

It didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel.

Taliban outfit which often rejects government forces' claim on inflicting casualties to militants, has yet to make comment. Endi
