Huawei presents smartwatch, other wearables at mobile world congress

Xinhua, March 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese telecommunications giant, Huawei, has taken advantage of the 2015 Mobile World Congress (MWC), which opened in Barcelona on Monday, to present the Huawei Watch smartwatch, as well as two other wearable devices.

The CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, highlighted that the Android-powered smartwatch, which contains a six-axis motion sensor and heart rate monitor as well as a round sapphire glass screen with a 286 pixels per inch display, was designed to look more like a watch than a smartphone, commenting that rival products were "more like gadgets and not like classical watches."

He added that the device would be available in gold, silver and black, when the product is launched mid-year.

The 2015 MWC has also seen Huawei launch the Talkband B2, an update of the company's Talkband B1, which is a combined wristband-Bluetooth headset device.

The original Talkband B1 was first launched at the 2014 MWC and Yu said it had "much higher" customer usage when compared to rival products, explaining that the new Talkband B2 offers a "more businesslike professional design," and will be available from next month for a price of 169 euros (about 190 U.S. dollars).

Finally, the company showcased the Talkband N1 headset, which has 4GB of embedded storage, allowing wearers to carry around 1,000 songs with them as well as enjoying voice call functions.

This device will be available to the public from May at a cost of 119 euros. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Endit
