Int'l gem show opens in Hong Kong

Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show opened on Monday at Hong Kong AsiaWorld-Expo.
In 2014, the value of Hong Kong exports of pearls, precious & semi-precious stones amounted to 16.6 billion U.S. dollars, an 11. 9 percent increase compared to the previous year.
"Building on the success of the inaugural 'two shows, two venues' format introduced last year, this show returns with another dazzling array of precious stones, pearls and raw materials here at the AsiaWorld-Expo," said Benedict Sin, Jewelry Advisory Committee Chairman of event organizer the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
According to HKTDC, new to the show this year is the Treasures of Ocean zone showcasing exquisite pearls.
The Hall of Fine Diamonds returns with more than 50 exhibitors showcasing fine carat-size diamonds, while the Treasures of Nature zone is dedicated to rare precious stones.
More than 1,800 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions are taking part in the exhibition.
The fair, which continues through March 6, was part of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewelry Show which opens on Wednesday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
When the Jewelry Show opens on March 4, the world's largest jewelry marketplace will be featuring with a total of more than 4, 360 exhibitors from 52 countries and regions.(1 U.S. dollar equals 7.76 HK dollars) Endi
