China's Li Qian wins women's 75kg at Strandja int'l boxing tournament

Chinese boxer Li Qian won the gold medal in the women's 75kg category Saturday at the 66th edition of "Strandja", the oldest international boxing tournament in Europe.

In the final bout of the competition, Li defeated Nouchka Fontijn of the Netherlands 2-1.

In another final, China's Ren Cancan, three-time International Boxing Association (AIBA) women's world champion and London 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist, lost to the European champion Stoyka Petrova of Bulgaria.

Two other Chinese women boxers took bronze medals, including Liu Piaopiao and Yang Wenlu in women's 54kg and 64kg categories respectively.

The five-day competition, called "essentially a mini world championships" by AIBA, brought together 250 men and women boxers from 37 countries and regions, a record in its history.

Boxers like to take part in the tournament in order to see their physical conditions and preparations for the Rio Olympics 2016. Endi
