Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov was shot and killed near the city center, according to local law enforcement agency.

"An unknown person killed Nemtsov with four shots using a handgun on the slope near St Basil's Cathedral in the Red Square," Tass news agency quoted a law enforcement spokesman as saying. (Russia-Opposition Leader)

WASHINGTON -- A senior U.S. diplomat said Friday she is optimistic that the U.S. and Cuba could open embassies before the Summit of the Americas slated for April 10-11.

GENEVA -- The talks between Iran and six major world powers over its nuclear program will resume in Switzerland's Montreux on March 5, a press release from the EU delegation to Geneva said on Friday.

The talks, to be chaired by EU Political Director Helga Schmid, will be preceded by a series of bilateral meetings between Iran and the P5+1 group, namely the U.S., Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany, starting on Monday. (Iran-Nuclear-Talk)

ARISH, Egypt -- At least 15 extremists were killed and four others were injured on Friday in a security air raid launched by the Egyptian Armed Forces on their hideouts at a desert area south of Sheikh Zuweid in the restive North Sinai province, a security source told Xinhua.

"The Apache raid that took place at the early hours of Friday killed 15 extremists, injured four others and destroyed four vehicles and five motorbikes that belonged to them," the source added, noting that the extremists belonged to the Sinai-based al-Qaida-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) group.
