Xinhua, February 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Finnish government has committed an additional 500,000 euros(559,780 U.S. dollars) of humanitarian assistance to victims of the Ukraine crisis, Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.

The ministry said that the aid will be transferred to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies through the Finnish Red Cross.

The situation in east Ukraine has been exacerbated by armed conflicts. As a result, 5 million people in Ukraine are in need of humanitarian aid currently.

The fund will be used to provide food, shelters, clothing, household goods and other items to civilians who are suffering from the crisis in Ukraine.

Finnish minister for international development Sirpa Paatero predicted that the number of internally displaced persons is expected to grow further due to new turmoil.

Since 2014, Finland has provided a total of 1 million euros of humanitarian aids to Ukraine. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
