Albania has launched pilot projects to overhaul buildings which were constructed without legal permits, local media reported on Friday, citing government officials.

Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi said on Friday the government is determined to quickly and eventually resolve the issue of legalization of the informal settlements, Albanian Telegraphic Agency reported.

Several pilot projects are underway to complete legalization process of areas in cities of Vlora, Durres, Sarande, and these projects will be promoted across Albania, according to Peleshi.

The misuse of the land, with the erection of hundreds of thousands of buildings without a construction permit, is a phenomenon of the country's transition over the past 20 years.
