National minimum wages across the European Union (EU) ranged from 184 euros (206.25 U.S. dollars) per month in Bulgaria to 1,923 euros in Luxembourg in January, its official statistical office Eurostat said Thursday.
Data from 22 out of the 28 EU member states with national minimum wages showed disparities between nations were reduced from a ratio of 1 to 10 in euros to a ratio of 1 to 4 when adjusted for differences in purchasing power (PPS).
The 22 states that have national minimum wages can be divided into three main groups based on the level in euros. In January 2015, ten member states had minimum wages below 500 euros per month, namely Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Slovakia, Estonia, Croatia and Poland.
In five other member states, minimum wages were between 500 euros and 1,000 euros per month, including Portugal, Greece, Malta, Spain and Slovenia.
In the remaining seven member States, minimum wages were well above 1,000 per month: Britain, France, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Endit
