Judge detained on bribery suspicion in BiH

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

A judge was detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on a suspicion of bribery, police said on Thursday.

Azra Miletic, a female appeals chamber judge, was detained by police officers from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) on Wednesday night.

Two other people, including a convicted former police commissioner, were also put into custody for allegedly giving money to Miletic.

"These are certainly troubling findings since Judge Miletic performs a highly responsible role in the judicial institution at the state level. Although we only have grounds for suspicion, and not established guilt, we believe that the current situation in itself casts a shadow on the reputation of our institution and can undermine citizens' faith in the judiciary," said a court statement.
