Local residents console families of shooting attack victims in Czech town

Several hundred people gathered on Wednesday morning in the Czech town of Uhersky Brod to condole the loved ones of eight victims in Tuesday's shooting attack outside the Druzba restaurant.

Seven male diners and a waitress were shot dead in the restaurant by a local 63-year-old man who then turned the gun on himself.

People lit candles in memory of the victims. Czech President Milos Zeman said he planned to lay flowers where the incident took place to pay his respect to the victims on Friday.

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka expressed his sympathy to the families and friends of the victims, saying the tragedy greatly affected him.

Uhersky Brod Mayor, Patrik Kuncar, said the shooting has been the biggest tragedy in the town's history. He said the town hall would organize a fundraising drive in support of the victims' families and the bereaved have been offered psychological support.

Czech senators observed a minute of silence for the victims of at their plenary session on Wednesday morning. Endit
