Infectious diarrhea in Taiwan sends 34,000 people to hospitals

Xinhua, February 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 34,000 people sought hospital treatment in Taiwan during the holiday week due to infectious diarrhea, the health authority said on Wednesday.

It was the highest number of cases in four years and 10 percent higher than the same period of last year, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

CDC deputy chief Chuang Jen-hsiang attributed the rise to more frequent dining-out during the holiday, warning of a rising threat o until March 1 as more people traveling will help transmit the disease.

The CDC is continuing to monitor an outbreak of norovirus in a central Taiwan tourist spot known for its cherry blossoms, where about 120 tourists were reported infected during the holiday. Endi
