Indian anti-terror court sentences Mumbai gangster to life in jail in murder case

Xinhua, February 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

An anti-terror court in India Wednesday sentenced to life in jail a notorious gangster, who was extradited from Portugal 10 years back, for killing a builder in Mumbai over a property dispute.

The court gave life term to Abu Salem and two of his former accomplices -- all then part of the Dawood Ibrahim gang -- for their involvement in the murder of Pradeep Jain at his residence in Mumbai in 1995.

The 47-year-old gangster was extradited from Portugal in 2005, where he had been hiding in with his girlfriend and Bollywood actress Monika, after a long legal battle on the condition that he would not be executed if convicted in India.

Salem has been lodged in a prison in Mumbai since his extradition from Portugal. Several other cases are pending against him. Endi
