Four trapped underground in mine accident in Bosnia

Xinhua, February 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four people were trapped underground in a mine accident in northeast Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), local officials said on Sunday.

The lignite mine, at Dubrave near the industrial city of Tuzla, was the scene of rescue since late night Saturday when an earthquake triggered a landslide, police and rescuers said.

Piles of mud and debris slowed the rescue operation to save the four people, reportedly to be illegal miners, local media reported, adding that they probably died.

The rescue operation will continue, local officials said.

Illegal miners are not uncommon in some coal mines in BiH. Endit
