Police raid weapons depot in Bahrain, seize homemade bombs

Xinhua, February 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bahrain's police on Tuesday said it raided a house still under construction in central town of A'ali and seized a number of homemade weapons and bombs.

The Northern Governorate Police general director said the house was being used by "terrorists" as a hiding place to store their operation materials.

"A ready-to-use homemade bomb and materials for riots such as iron rods, fire extinguishers that are used as homemade guns and mobile phones connected to wires, were confiscated," he said.

The official added an investigation was launched to identify the suspects.

Protests were reported in some parts of the country last week when it marked the fourth anniversary since anti-government protests broke out in 2011.

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, Bahrain's largest opposition group, said it will continue its peaceful activities despite being investigated by authorities earlier this week for statements it posted on its website and twitter account.

The Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security said this week that Al Wefaq is under suspicion of publicly inciting hatred against the government and distributing false news in a way that could harm the civil peace and national security.

The department has documented Al Wefaq's statements to refer the case to the Public Prosecution. Endit
