Toyota leads car sales in Namibia

Xinhua, February 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota continues to lead car sales in the Namibian market, a Namibian research company's report said.

Of the 743 new passenger vehicles sold in January, Toyota accounted for 34 percent, while German car maker Volkswagen about 20 percent, the report said.

As for the sales of light commercial vehicles, Toyota also took the lead accounting for 52 percent. Another Japanese company Nissan came second with 15 percent and American automaker Ford sat on third position with 11 percent.

This year's car sales in Namibia up till now rose 13.9 percent compared with the same period last year, the report added.

The research company attributed the growth to a number of factors, including the on-going expansive fiscal and monetary positions of the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Namibia, as well as increased purchase of vehicles by government. Endi
